CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – A drowning was confirmed on Lay Lake when the body of a male, reportedly in his 50s, was found early Monday morning.
According to search and rescue team members, the man had been boating over the weekend and disappeared when swimming. A 9-1-1 call was received just after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, and more than two dozen people deployed in 10 boats were involved in the search which included the Shelby County Sheriff’s office, Calera Dive, Southeast Shelby Rescue, the Lay Lake Fire Dept., the Childersburg Fire Dept., Childersburg Rescue, Tallapoosa County/Alexander City Rescue, and the Etowah Rescue Squad.
The body was recovered within a mile of where the man reportedly went down on Lay Lake at Kahatchee Creek. Additional details and release of the victim’s name are pending.
