SYLACAUGA, Ala. –  On Wednesday, March 6 at noon, revered story performer Dolores Hydock will present a theatrical performance at the Comer Library based on the life of Audrey Sheppard Williams—the wife of country singer, Hank Williams.

Tracey Thomas, director of the Comer Library said, “We were not sure who the subject of this program by Dolores would be, but we just wanted her to tell the story for our audience!  Then a few days ago, we learned of the debut of her new performance in a town in Pike County near where Audrey Williams grew up and—the cat was out of the bag!”

How does a performer from Pennsylvania tell the story of an Alabama country girl from Pike County walking out of the cotton fields into the bright glow of that spotlight beaming down on her husband, the legendary Hank Williams? Dolores left no rock unturned in her mission to tell the Audrey Williams story in a unique and honest way!

Dolores read the books, watched the movies, and researched every aspect of Audrey’s life—even interviewing her daughters and other family members in Alabama and Tennessee.  Rave reviews of this inaugural performance by Dolores include remarks like, “Dolores Hydock told the story with honesty and sincerity!” and “Not what I expected, but much more than I could have imagined!”

Hydock, originally from Pennsylvania, came as a college student to Chandler Mountain to collect local folklore—and she decided to stay!  She has performed at the highest levels for prestigious arts and culture organizations across the southeast, and she is a much-loved regular for the Comer Library’s programs.

Sponsors of the Comer Library’s “Celebrating Alabama’s Storied Past” adult lecture series include SouthFirst Bank and the Hickory Street Café.  Refreshments begin at 11:00 a.m followed by the program at noon.  Groups wishing to attend should contact library director, Tracey Thomas at 256-249-0961 or email [email protected] to inquire about availability of seating.
