Childersburg hosting county seven on seven football tournament Thursday

SHARE NOW

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Childersburg High School will host a large 7-on-7 football tournament Thursday.

Eleven teams will make up the field for Saturday’s tournament from nine different schools. Those schools are Childersburg, B.B. Comer, Winterboro, Fayetteville, Pell City, Lincoln, Munford, Horseshoe Bend and Benjamin Russell.

These tournaments are great for skill players on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. According to Childersburg Head Coach Jonathan Beverly the camp helps with timing on offense between quarterbacks and receivers and defending the pass on defense.

A local 7-on-7 tournament is rare which excites Beverly. He said his team usually has to drive to Birmingham or different college campuses across the state which costs more money. “It’s great to host one of these tournaments,” he said. “It’s great to host it with local teams, get our work in and not have to ride a bus for multiple hours to play.”

Beverly is also excited about the opportunity to show off his school’s new stadium and athletic facility to those who have not had the opportunity to play at John W. Cox Stadium.

The tournament has been organized by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which adds a special incentive to play in the event. “There are some bigger things than football happening Thursday, so we really wanted to get our kids and other kids in the county around a positive culture to hopefully give some people momentum with things bigger than football,” Beverly explained.

Events kickoff at 8:00 Thursday morning with breakfast and a speaker before games begin at 9:00.
