CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council met at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
The following agenda of items were viewed for action:
The meeting opened with the second of two Public Hearings on a proposed amendment to Sales Tax Ordinance. No action was taken.
The Council approved Resolution 2018-19, which authorized Mayor Ken Wesson to enter into agreement with Alabama Power for conversion of approximately 750 street lights to LED. There will be no up-front or installation costs involved. Work will be scheduled to begin just after the start of the new calendar year. But Alabama Power representative Robert Richardson said that the company would entertain the idea of working on the downtown lighting prior to the December Christmas Parade.
Resolution 2018-20 also gained approval. It authorized a payment of $2,500 to Jay Jenkins for architectural work performed for the submission of application for USDA grants for improvements to the R.S. Limbaugh Community Center.
Council Member Brandon Robinson read into the record, a Proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Childersburg.
The Council approved the renewal of the city’s liability insurance through AMIC/Insurance Place at an annual cost of $246,597.
Approval was given to the Fire Department to purchase two replacement computers for the department at a cost of $2,780.
The Council approved participation in the annual Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 13th, reserving professional float at a cost of $250.
Approval was given to a proposal to modify street access at intersection of First Street and Eighth Avenue SW to create a one-way and to increase parking capacity from 5 to 14 spaces through the creation of diagonal parking.
The Council gave approval for attendance at the Alabama Recreational Trails Workshop for mountain bike trails for Monty Powell and Gene Piatkowski to represent the Historical Preservation Commission and the Kymulga Grist Mill Park on Nov. 8 in Auburn, including a registration fee at $35, plus travel.
Payment of invoices was approved in the amount of $288,288.91.
During the Town Hall portion of the meeting, Mayor Wesson noted that 45 vintage antique Model A Fords will start a tour of covered bridge locations with a stop at the Kymulga Grist Mill Park this Thursday, Oct. 18 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The public is invited. The Mayor also announced an $8,500 state historical grant for the Grist Mill to upgrade electric service in the historic facility.
The next regular meeting will be held on Nov. 6, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.
