CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council met at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24.

The with following items were on the agenda:

The Council approved a recommendation from the Planning Commission to modify the zoning of property from the Nolf property located at the intersection of 8th and 9th Avenues, SW., from MHP to R-1.

Approval was given for Shirley Shepherd to attend a training conference on Aug. 3-4.

A presentation of a donation was made to Childersburg Fire Department and Childersburg Rescue Squad from the Childersburg High School Class of 1968.

The Council approved payment of monthly invoices in the amount of $162397.62.

Approval was given to have speed bumps located on various streets in the Pinewood Terrance and Sadie Lee communities to slow down traffic.

The Council also approved opening an application period for a position of Operations Coordinator for the Parks and Recreation Department.

During the Town Hall portion of the meeting, Mayor Ken Wesson reported on the recent ARPA State Softball Tournament when Childersburg hosted 29 teams in three age divisions, “We had representatives from a number of the participating cities calling us the next week, commending our staff, our business community, our restaurants, our people. The ARPA and ASA officials are looking forward to being here again in the future. I had been worried that the costs of putting on the tournament would out-weigh the game day revenues it produced, but our initial figures show that we’ll come out ahead, and I am really looking forward to seeing what kind of up-tick we had through sales tax collections.”

The next Childersburg City Council regular meeting will be held on Aug. 7 at 6:00 p.m.
