COOSA COUNTY, Ala. – An investigation is underway after human remains were discovered in Coosa County.
A search warrant was issued in the county Monday after unidentified remains were found in the northern portion of the county on property in or near Talladega Springs.
Coosa County Sheriff Michael Howell said bones were originally discovered in Talladega Co. and investigated by the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office. After investigating, TCSO learned the bones were taken into Talladega Co. from property in Coosa Co. “Talladega County was notified that someone found some bones,” said Howell. “Upon investigation, they were able to determine that the discovered bones and human remains were moved from a residence in Coosa County.”
That residence, which is vacant according to Howell, is located just off Co. Rd. 99 in rural Coosa Co. The human remains were found very close to the home.
“We’ve located several bones. A skull and several other bones could lead to identification way before forensics,” Howell explained. “We came across evidence that could help us identify this person quickly.”
CCSO believes there is only one potential victim in this case, and hopes to have the bones linked to a person by the end of the day Tuesday or during the day Wednesday. Howell believes the remains belong to an adult, but did not feel comfortable pinpointing a gender.
Currently, the investigation is being ran as simply an investigation into a death. If proper evidence comes to light, that circumstance could change.
“We know this person died, but we do not know how this person died,” Howell stated.”So at this time we are conducting a death investigation.”
CCSO and TCSO are working closely in this case, and Howell thanked TCSO for its continued help in this investigation.
