Basketball State Champions to be Honored at Tuesday Sylacauga City Council Meeting

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga High School boys basketball team defeated Eufaula to take home its second state championship in program history and first since 1988 on Saturday. On Tuesday, the Sylacauga City Council will honor Head Coach William Copeland and his team at its scheduled Tuesday meeting.

The Sylacauga High School basketball announced its appearance at the council meeting on its Facebook page on Monday.

The team will be honored at the beginning of the meeting during Mayor Jim Heigl’s report on the city.

After the visit from the Class 5A champions, the city will proceed with its agenda for the night. View the agenda below:

  • Resolution 10-2018 setting public hearing date for adoption of the Subdivision Regulations as adopted by the Planning Commission on March 1, 2018 by Resolution PC01-2018.
  • Resolution 11-2018 authorizing $5,000.00 expenditure for Marble Festival expenses.
  • Retail Beer (Off Premises Only) and Retail Table Wine (Off Premises Only) application from Moran Foods, LLC. DBA Save A Lot Store 386 located at 204 W Ft Williams in Sylacauga.
  • Recommendation from Fire Chief Adam Gardner to move Reid Tapley from Part-Time Firefighter Status to Full-Time Firefighter Status at Pay Grade PSF-1, Step 1 ($35,163.14), effective March 17,2018.
  • Request from Planning Commission to have Lawrence Wilson of Engineering Design Technologies, Inc., review Subdivision Regulations at an estimated cost of $1,000.
  • Request from Police Chief Kelley Johnson to purchase one (1) set of Easy Drift Rings from EasyDrift, LLC, at a cost of $1,541.42 in order to provide in-house Skid Car training. Cost of rings to be shared with four other local law enforcement agencies.
  • Appointment to Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals – three-year term of Jonathan Hall expired January 2018.
  • Appointment to Historical Commission – three-year term of Linda Dickson expired March, 2018.
  • Approve expenses for Admin/Finance Accounting Clerk III Kristi Thompson to attend the Alabama Revenue Officers Certification Training Institute in Tuscaloosa April 3-6, 2018. Registration fee is $225.00. Additional expenses for lodging, mileage, and meals will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Thompson are $751.36.
  • Approve expenses for Admin/Finance Accounting Clerk III Sandy Sorensen to attend the Alabama Revenue Officers Certification Training Institute in Tuscaloosa April 3-6, 2018. Registration fee is $225.00. Additional expenses for lodging and meals will be incurred. Sorensen will be carpooling with Thompson. Total estimated expenses for Sorensen are $645.85.
  • Approve expenses for HR Specialist Jayne McGee to attend the Southern Region IPMA-HR/AAPPA Conference in Birmingham May 21-23, 2018. Registration fee is $315.00. Additional expenses for mileage and parking will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for McGee are $506.33.
  • Approve expenses for PD Sgt. Shane Bland to attend the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events Instructor training in Orange Beach April 3, 2018. There is no registration fee. Expenses for meals, one hotel suite (for all three officers), and fuel for one city vehicle (officers to carpool) will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Bland are $310.95.
  • Approve expenses for PD Officer Kelly White to attend the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events Instructor training in Orange Beach April 3, 2018. There is no registration fee. Expenses for meals will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for White are $75.
  • Approve expenses for PD Officer Christopher Gallops to attend the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events Instructor training in Orange Beach April 3, 2018. There is no registration fee. Expenses for meals will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Gallops are $75.
  • Accounts Payable received to date for February in the amount of $215,912.24.
