Aggie softball tops Talladega 12-2

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Lady Aggies took down county opponent Talladega 12-2 on last night.

Lani Varner pitched five innings of relief, allowing no hits, no earned runs, four walks and four strikeouts in the six inning 10-run rule victory.

In the contest, the Aggie’s offense collected 15 hits.  After going three-up and three-down in the first inning, the Aggies scored 5 runs in the second.  Varner had a Sac-fly to score Neeley-Scott Murphree, followed by RBI singles by Madison Martin and Aurielle Turner.

Talladega scored 2 runs in the bottom of the second to make it a 5-2 game.

Later in the third inning after a Kaleigh Smith double and Varner single, the Aggies scored two more runs on a Madison Martin 2 RBI double.

The following inning was a repeat of the third only this time Maddi Ingram doubles and Raegan Wills singles followed up by a Kaleigh Smith 2 RBI double to give Sylacauga a 9-2 lead.

The fifth inning saw Kaylei Horn get on base with a single and score on an Aurielle Turner RBI double.

The Aggies came up with a few more big hits in the sixth inning.  Starting with a Raegan Wills double that was immediately followed by consecutive RBI doubles off the bats of Smith and Varner to put the score at 12-2.

The Aggies where able to put the game away in the bottom of the sixth inning by holding the Tigers to no runs, ending the game on two consecutive Varner strikeouts.  Sylacauga now stands at 7-3-1 on the season.

Next up for the Aggies will be a trip to Horseshoe Bend to take on the Lady Generals next Tuesday, March 26.
