Accident leaves one dead in front of Shell Station at Hwy. 280 and Old Birmingham Hwy. intersection

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A two-vehicle crash at 12:30 p.m. Friday has claimed the life of a Trussville women.

Elizabeth Ann Vance, 56, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet HHR east on Hwy. 280, attempting to turn left onto Old Birmingham Hwy. While crossing the westbound lanes, Vance’s vehicle was struck by a 1975 Chevrolet Impala traveling west on U.S. Highway 280. Vance was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet Impala was identified as J.T. Toombs, 33, from Sylacauga. Toombs was airlifted to Baptist South Hospital.

The crash occurred two miles west of Sylacauga in front of the Shell gas station at Merkel Mountain.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
