Rodney Meadows will direct the upcoming ACT II production of “Love Letters,” by A.R. Gurney, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. “Love Letters” follows the lives of Andrew Makepeace Ladd, III and Melissa Gardner, both born to wealth and position, through letters written to each other over 50 years.
This play has been performed by hundreds of well-known actors over the years including Charlton Heston and Lydia Clarke; Carol Burnett and Brian Dennehy; Alan Alda and Candice Bergen; and Ryan O’Neal and Ali MacGraw, among many, many others.
The opening night performance will be a Valentine’s Dinner Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30, and the performers will be Nancy Hodges and Kenneth Cochran. Bring your sweetheart or your best friend and enjoy a three-course seated and served dinner in an upscale setting with linen tablecloths and romantic background music. Your ticket at $70 each will also include a delicious meal, a bottle of wine per couple and a rose for the ladies, of course! Seating is limited, and reservations are required by Feb. 10. Make reservations at actheatre2.com or call Mary Perry at 256-496-1228. Payment is required at time of purchase. Adults only.
Two additional performances – without dinner and the trimmings – will be staged on Friday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. performed by Pat Bice and Ron Davenport. A wine and cheese reception will follow the Friday night performance, courtesy of Ocie & Belle’s in downtown Alexander City. On Sunday, Feb. 17, the final showing will take place at 2:00 p.m., performed by Jan Jung and John Jung. Purchase tickets for these two performances at actheatre2.com or purchase at the door. Tickets are $15 each for these performances. Seating is limited. Adults only.
All performances will be at the ACT II Fine Arts Center at 216 Tallapoosa Street. As always, ACT II is proud to showcase local talent in their productions, and they hope to see you at “Love Letters.”
