A Day in the Life: City Councilman Dallas Davenport

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga City Councilman Dallas Davenport’s day consists of serving the people of Sylacauga. Being a Sylacauga native and resident his entire life and serving as a police officer for approximately forty years, Davenport is no stranger to public service.

Davenport’s typical day begins around 7:00 a.m. Upon waking up, Davenport heads to the gym, usually spending at least an hour or two completing a full body work out.

After a lengthy workout, Davenport transitions to his duties at City Councilman.

“I am a full-time councilman. I am available for the people regarding anything and everything,” says Davenport, describing his typical duties. “I never turn anybody down. I always try to help with problems. If I cannot, I direct them to a person who can. And this is not just for District V; it’s for everyone.”

Davenport responds to various citizens, and his exact schedule and routine varies with each day. One day may consist of emailing constituents from his home, while others consist of visiting sites of complaints, meeting face-to-face with constituents, or observing the progress construction projects.

Other duties include constant communication with fellow council members. Davenport says he takes part in lots of meetings, researching, studying to make well informed decisions for city business.

“I really just want to thank the people of Sylacauga for allowing me to be their councilman. I really enjoy. The Lord blessed me to be a member of the law enforcement, and now he blessed me with being a councilman,” added Davenport.

After a long morning workout and day full of city business, Davenport winds his day down at home with his wife. He assists with cleaning and cooking around the house, then heads to bed around 10:00pm.

Other routines Davenport also regularly attends church services on Wednesday and Sunday of each week.
