Pursell Agri-Tech announces key strategic and financial partnerships

SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Pursell Agri-Tech is announcing key strategic and financial partnerships that the company believes will help it realize its mission of developing and commercializing the next generation of fertilizers to increase crop yields and improve human nutrition, while reducing environmental impact on water and the climate.

Pursell Agri-Tech has developed new coating technologies that deliver cost-efficient controlled-release fertilizers to the broad-acre commodity agriculture market. The innovative technology combines proprietary polymer compositions and a high-performance coating process to deliver a range of controlled-release fertilizers – notably urea – resulting in highly sustainable crop nutrient solutions that economically boost farmers’ yields with less potential impact on the environment.

The Pursell family has been involved in the agricultural and specialty fertilizers business since 1904, and has long been a pioneering developer of premium controlled-release fertilizer technologies. Pursell Agri-Tech, based in Sylacauga, is expanding on this legacy by developing and commercializing sustainable, next-generation controlled-release fertilizer and coating technologies that economically increase agricultural output and productivity while reducing the impact on the environment.

A new strategic partnership with Netherlands-based Stamicarbon B.V. – the innovation and licensing company of Maire Tecnimont and a global leader in the development and licensing of urea technology for the fertilizer industry – is a key step in Pursell delivering on its mission. The two companies have entered into an industrial cooperation in which Stamicarbon will be the exclusive global licensing partner, licensing the technology to interested parties outside North America, such as major urea producers and large fertilizer producers and distributors. Pursell will focus on growth and development of the North American market, where Stamicarbon will act as a non-exclusive licensing partner. The two organizations will also work closely together in an open innovation platform on the development of other new businesses and technologies.

In addition to its alliance with Stamicarbon, Pursell has also partnered with two leading investment firms, Jemison Investment Co. Inc. and Stonehenge Growth Capital Co. LLC, both based in Birmingham, Alabama.

“We’re excited to have the confidence and enthusiastic support of top-quality organizations such as Stamicarbon, Jemison and Stonehenge,” says Pursell Agri-Tech President and CEO Nick Adamchak. “The financial and strategic support of our partners will be critical in helping us bring better fertilizer solutions to the market that will help pave the way for more sustainable, climate-smart agriculture not only for North America, but worldwide as well.”

Adamchak says Pursell has begun production of its next-generation controlled-release fertilizer products. The company is also on track to open a new full-scale commercial coating plant at its Sylacauga operation in January 2018. The facility will also serve as a training facility for licensees of Pursell’s next-generation technologies. The fertilizer coatings plant, located on Millerville Hwy., will result in the creation in 22 jobs in Sylacauga over the next three years and a capital investment of $8,450,000.

“We’ve made a lot of progress in just a few short months,” Adamchak says. “We’re excited to work with our partners to bring our game-changing controlled-release technologies to the market.
