SYLACAUGA, Ala. — In a scheduled public hearing on Thursday, the Sylacauga Planning Commission approved the city’s request to accept plat plans for the proposed Hutton Team LLC retail development adjacent to Payton Park and across from Home Depot on U.S. Highway 280.
With this last of several required approvals, the sale of the 33-acre property to Hutton by the city is expected to close in April, with construction of the new Marble City Square to begin by the end of May. Hutton Team LLC representative Jamey Flegal told SylacaugaNews.com that delivery to tenants is planned for February 2018 with stores and restaurants opening next March.
The more than 100,000 sq. ft. development will initially include 10 businesses, two of them restaurants, with significant expansion space available for later phases. The area was recently rezoned as a general business district, and ALDOT approved installation of a new traffic signal for the area’s primary access road.
Chattanooga-based Hutton Team LLC has developed more than 10 million square feet of commercial property since its founding in 1994. Last September, a redevelopment reimbursement agreement for the property was approved by the previous city council in a 3-2 vote.
