SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A Sylacauga man has been arrested and charged for failing to adhere to the regulations set forth in the Alabama Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).
22-year-old Cameron Dakota Ashworth was admitted to the Talladega County Jail on June 22 and is currently being held on a $10,000 bond. He has also accumulated Failure to Appear charges and Parole Violation charges for which no bond has been set.
According to Talladega County Sheriff’s Capt. Billy Kennedy, Ashworth was arrested in November 2013 and charged with having sex with a minor. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Website, he was convicted and is now registered as a sex offender.
Failing to follow SORNA guidelines is a common issue for Ashworth. Court records show he has been charged with SORNA violations multiple times. One occurring shortly after his conviction. Records also show Ashworth spent over a month in Kilby Correctional Facility spanning from December 2016 through January 2017.
Records indicated Ashworth previously listed his address as 348 Knoll Rd. in Sylacauga, but currently the Alabama Sex Offender Registry has Ashworth listed as homeless.
Kennedy explained the process of registering as a homeless man. He said homeless sex offenders must register weekly with their local law enforcement and must give a location of where they usually are.
