SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Three residential awards and two commercial/industrial awards were presented this week to deserving citizens for beautiful Christmas decorations.

Receiving a Santa Stamp of Approval Award were Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Rogers, 2810 Arrowhead Drive; Kevin Whitman, 205 Milton Street; and Mr. and Mrs. Jason Gordon, 5 Rosemary Lane. Receiving a Santa Stamp of Approval sign for the commercial/industry division were Magnolias Gift Shop at 125 North Broadway Avenue and the Sylacauga Board of Education at 43 North Broadway Avenue.

In many cases decorating was a group effort, as Debbie Rogers explained that their four grandchildren assisted. “They love helping us and it means so much to them,” she said.

The Gordons said daughters Megan and Lindsay help them decorate each year as well.

Kelley Wassermann of the Sylacauga Board of Education said a number of employees at the office took part in decorating the front of their building.

The inaugural event was highlighted by Santa Claus himself presenting a “Santa Stamp of Approval” sign for each lawn and to the businesses. The event is a partnership of the Sylacauga Beautification Council, Santa Magic, the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce, and Sylacauga Today Newspaper. Plans are already underway for next year’s event which will be held sooner, with cash prizes expected to be awarded.
