Power outages affecting Sylacauga residents

SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Tropical Storm Irma is hitting Alabama hard. Alabama Power has reported at least 12,000 outages across the state so far. Those outages are quickly moving to Sylacauga.

Sylacauga Utilities Board General Manager Mitch Miller told SylacaugaNews.com the city is experiencing four outages affecting 36 customers.

The areas affected are Springhill and houses off of S. Norton Ave.

If you have an outage, contact SUB at 256-249-0372. By going through the automated system, the location of the outage is mapped to SUB’s system model.  This automatic mapping helps SUB identify the location of the problem and allows it to respond in a more timely manner.  In addition, SUB is able to receive 25 calls at once over the automated system, which keeps the amount of busy signals minimized.

Mayor Jim Heigl said all city departments are on standby and will be ready if needed.
