OAK GROVE, Ala. – Black Bear sightings are becoming more prevalent across the state of Alabama. Recent reports have come from Coosa County, Lee County, and now Talladega County.

On Thursday, Aug. 3, in the small town of Oak Grove, a bear was seen multiple times near Tim Presley’s home on Mountainview Lake Rd. Presley told SylacaugaNews.com he lives in the wilderness where deer, geese, squirrels, and coyotes roam, but Thursday was the first time a bear had been added to the equation.

While Presley was away from home, his garbage can was turned over. He explained a few kids who were riding bicycles saw a bear while cruising up and down the road. The trash bags were ripped to pieces and dragged into the woods, but Presley did not believe the children saw a bear, but rather thought they may have been pulling a prank.

Trail cameras were placed in the yard and pointed towards the garbage can. Not soon after, the bear was back, and the Presley caught him on camera. “It’s a surprising thing to see at your driveway,” he stated. “I’ve been aware of sightings, and I assumed it was a matter of time.”

The bear, as reported by the children, was said to be small, but judging by the photos captured by Presley, this was no small animal.

As reports become more and more prevalent, the Childersburg Police Department responded with a post via social media.

As CPD reported, it is illegal to shoot a bear in the state of Alabama. It will be to your benefit to call and report all Talladega County bear sightings to the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries District Office at 256- 435-5422.
