Moon Taxi to headline 5th Annual Sun Festival

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. – It is never to early to make summer plans, and the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce is giving you an option that is not too far from home.  Locals say The Sun Festival in Alexander City is one of the most exciting events in Central Alabama every year. Now, the 5th Annual Sun Festival is set to top past years after the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce announced the band Moon Taxi will headline the festival at Strand Park in downtown.

“We are thrilled to have Moon Taxi as our headliner,” said Chamber President and CEO Ed Collari. “Having a popular act like Moon Taxi, who has local roots in Birmingham, combined with moving the event to Strand Park is going to create an electric atmosphere and draw thousands of visitors to our downtown.”

Hailing from Nashvile, Tennessee, Moon Taxi is an indie-progressive rock band which formed in 2006. Nine years later, the group has played over one thousand shows and released two albums. They have appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman and Conan as well as multiple commercials and TV placements. This year the band has decided to become a festival favorite. Recently Moon Taxi has performed at Bonnaroo, Governor’s Ball, Wakarusa, Houston Free Press and has upcoming performances at Lallapalooza and Austin City Limits.

Moon Taxi will perform on Saturday, July 22 at 7:00 p.m., but the fun for the Sun Festival does not start there. For those not familiar with the Sun Festival, it is the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce’s nine day, community development and tourism initiative comprised of more than 50 individual events designed to celebrate the lifestyles in the Alexander City and Lake Martin areas. The entire festival is set to kick off on Friday, July 14 on the Green at Russell Crossroads.

Many family friendly events will be held each day including parades, car shows and more. A complete schedule of events is currently being finalized, and will be available at www.alexandercitychamber.com.
