SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Wednesday night, portions of Ala. Highway 21 were closed due to a wreck involving a pedestrian hit by a car.

A SylacaugaNews.com reporter on the scene shortly after 9:30 p.m. observed a black male on a stretcher being loaded into an ambulance. SPD Chief Kelley Johnson said Thursday the victim was transported to Coosa Valley Medical Center where he was stabilized then flown to UAB Hospital.

While one northbound lane remained open, all southbound lanes were closed while emergency crews assessed the scene.

Many Facebook comments related to an earlier posting of this story suggest many people attempt to cross the road in the same area.
