Local Doctor Honored by Childersburg Mayor at City Council Meeting

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – The Childersburg City Council met for the first time in February on Tuesday night.

The council approved Resolution 2018-02 which awards administrative service to East Alabama Planning Commission for the City’s award of a Recreational Trail Program Project Grant through through the Alabama Department of of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).

Steve Mahaffey was approved to fill a vacancy on the Childersburg Water Sewer & Gas Board for a term expiring on Jan. 26, 2023.

The Council approved the transfer of an ABC an off-premise retail beer and wine license for Pit Stop due to an ownership change.

Approval was given for the Mayor and Council to attend the Annual Alabama League of Municipalities Convention in Montgomery from May 18-23, 2018.

The Council also approved C.P.D. Officer Brandon Hughes to attend Firearms Instructor Training in Tuscaloosa.

The Council gave approval for the installation of a street light on Fairview Drive.

The Council also approved repairs to be made to a compressor at the carpentry/termite building, not to exceed $60.

The Council approved an advertisement with Childersburg High School Softball at a cost of $250, paid from LRA funds.

Approval was given to pay invoices in the amount of $133,965.92.

The Mayor and Council honored Dr. J. Anthony Nix of Nix Family Medicine in Childersburg with an official City Proclamation. They recognized his compassionate dedication to the citizens of the area through his medical practice on Highway 280.

The next scheduled meeting of the Childersburg City Council will be Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 6:00 p.m.
