Development underway on former Coast to Coast building

SYLACAUGA, Ala.- Construction and new business projects continue to spread throughout the City of Sylacauga. A new Dollar Tree, Jack’s, and Goo-Goo Express Wash are already in the works. Last week a Mississippi based development company started the early stages of renovations on the former Coast to Coast shopping building on W. Fort Williams Street near Sonic.

Although it is not official, Brent Federick, owner and partner of Second Street of Sylacauga LLC, believes his company will lease the building to Ollie’s Bargain Center after all is said and done.

Federick said a few more details need to be passed through the city government before anything is set in stone, including a few more incentives.

“Without proper incentives it’s just not feasible to do a project like this,” said Federick. “Right now we’re just waiting on those incentives to get passed.”

The City is also waiting on architectural and engineering plans from Federick’s company. Code Enforcement and Planning Administrative Secretary Shannon Plexico told SylacaugaNews.com once those plans are approved, the City will issue Second Street of Sylacauga LLC a build-out permit that will allow the organization to start construction on the inside of the facility. Plexico said everything has gone well so far with Federick’s company and she expects the build-out permit to be issued with no complications.

Working with Ollie’s Bargain Center is nothing new for Federick. His company has built numerous Ollie’s, including ones in Scottsboro and Anniston. Federick said he partners with Ollie’s because the store has proven itself and has a very successful business model.

“The stores in Scottsboro and Anniston opened up great and were welcomed well,” stated Federick. He said Sylacauga is a great fit for Ollie’s knowing the market and he expects Ollie’s of Sylacauga to have the same successful results as other stores.

So what does Ollie’s have to offer?

According to the Ollie’s website, shoppers can find items up to 70% off in many different departments including sporting goods, housewear, and even food. Ollie’s buys items come from closeouts, overstocks, package changes, and manufacturer refurbished goods and irregulars. Ollie’s Bargain Center currently has 234 stores open nationwide.

Superintendent of the building site John Fletcher said he expects the redevelopment and renovations to be done in at least three months, but also said two months is also a realistic expectation.
