Comer Museum set to host Shelby County Camera Club reception

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Comer Museum and Arts Center presents a different attraction in its main display room each month.

The Shelby County Camera Club (SCCC) has taken over that room for the month of January, and a reception will be held tonight, Jan. 19 at 6:30. Museum director Linda Pearson told SylacaugaNews.com that everyone in the community is invited, and she expects a great showing. She was also excited to feature a group that is not necessarily local.

“I’m glad to see that we are branching out into Birmingham and other areas,” said Pearson. “It’s great for us to be able to work with groups from that area.”

So what can you expect to see and do at the reception?

Founder of the 300-plus member club, Ted Vodde, said you can expect to see variety and award winning photography.

Vodde told SylacaugaNews.com that every photo displayed is the “best of the best” of what members of his club have taken. Each photo has a detailed description by its side, and goes into detail on why the photo is important and why the photographer chose to display it.

Those who come to the reception will also have the opportunity to ask SCCC members questions about the art, and essentially get into the mind of the photographer. Vodde said many members of his club will be present, and he is looking forward to showing off the art his club has worked so hard on.

“There will be a huge layout of food and drink, and this will just be a lot of fun,” stated Vodde. “There’s so much great art work, and there’s nothing more fun than enjoying a nice glass of wine and talking to people who appreciate art and what it means.”

Admission to the reception is free, but donations are welcome.

The SCCC exhibit will remain in the main display room until Jan. 31.
